Ivy Rose Bears has come full circle with the Bearly You
bears since it was during an attempt to preserve a likeness of my own daughter’s face in 1995 that I discovered I had a gift … the ability to sculpt. I’m still amazed with every face I complete. But somewhere during the hours I sit with clay in hand, the rational me seems to fade away and something else takes over. Faces just melt into shape in my hands. Okay, it’s not really as easy as that. Sometimes the hours become days, but eventually, there it is … looking back at me …and I smile.
The Bearly You bears have so many purposes. Sometimes they’re ordered by a loving grandmother who wants
to spend more time with a grandchild. Sometimes it’s a self-image of a person at a younger age, creating a path to the past and an opening to heal the child within. Sometimes they’re
sent to a military parent or other family members who live far away to bridge the distance. Sometimes they’re created for other mothers like me, to capture a likeness of the sweet face of a child at a
young age. The purposes and potentials of these bears are infinite. Whatever the reason, there’s nothing like holding a bear with a face that already has a special place in your heart.
